Price by size of problem
Fantastic Services, 2026, gives these prices outside London, including VAT:
- single wardrobe, caught early: £120 to £160
- one room with established larvae: £170 to £240
- several rooms: £250 to £300
- pantry or food moths: £120 to £200
- severe carpet infestation: £300 or more
- follow-up visit: £60 to £100
Most jobs need two to three visits, so ask whether follow-ups are in the quote. Moth treatment explains each visit.
London and the South East
Expect 20 to 30% more in London and the South East: £150 to £350 according to Fantastic Services.
Why guides disagree
howmuchshoulditcost, 2026, gives £150 to £450, with an average of £250. PestPro Index (March 2026) gives £80 to £150 for one or two visits. The cheap figure probably covers a single small treatment, so compare what is included before you compare prices.
What drives the price
Three things move the price: how many rooms are affected, what the moths are eating and how many visits are needed. A single wardrobe caught early sits at the bottom of the range. A carpet infestation or several rooms sits at the top. A pantry moth job is cheaper, at £120 to £200, because it focuses on the kitchen. Ask whether the quote is per visit or for the whole course.
What is not included
Replacing damaged clothes and carpets, deep cleaning and heat treatment are not part of a standard moth visit. Heat treatment is quoted separately. Each follow-up visit costs £60 to £100 if it is not in the original price.
Questions to ask before you book
Ask how many visits the price includes, whether follow-ups are charged at £60 to £100 each, what the guarantee covers and whether heat treatment is on offer. Check the firm's membership of BPCA or NPTA, which are trade associations with audits and codes of practice, not licences.
The council option
A few councils treat moths and carpet beetles, and most do not. Lancaster lists moths for residents, and Test Valley treats carpet moths and beetles. Our council pest control page shows what yours offers.
Keeping the cost down
A single wardrobe caught early is a job you can often handle yourself. See the DIY guide. Do the washing, freezing and vacuuming before a technician arrives, which makes the treatment more effective. Our identification guide tells you whether you have moths or carpet beetles. In a rented home the tenant usually pays, unless the problem comes from the building.
